This is the second piece for the series of artwork based on North American wildlife and Native American craft and culture (for a better description, see Sacred Ceremony. A grey wolf smokes his handcrafted totem pipe. The wolf head on the pipe is inspired by a wooden carving that I own myself. The composition came out nicely, yet I find that I may have gone a little too dark again especially on the ears and muzzle. The fur and feather texture is as I wanted, but I wish the darn colours hadnt faded so fast! Erh!
I'm looking at my M16 right now, and... I'm thinking... "Go shoot yourself, now." You know, you're the kinda person that makes me want to just give it all up... I simply can't fathom how awesomely good this is, and how awesome good I'm not! And you wonder why I don't accept compliments from you that well... Could it be because you are simply light-years ahead of me in all that is art!? Bu, I'll get over it, I always do.
As for critique (as if I even have the right too...), um...
If you ever looked at my art, you'll notice that I personally love to use the full spectrum of darks and lights... But, I suppose you were right in saying that you might have gone a little overboard on the ear. That black line going down the middle isn't distracting by any means, but does contrast the rest of the ear a little much. I wouldn't have noticed it though, unless you told me. Otherwise, you've done an amazing job on planning this image out. A lot of times people tend to just "wing" it and add things as the go, and often times it really shows... or they just have a minimalistic amount of detail in it and end up with a boring image all together. I'm pretty guilty of that. But, I'm just gonna shut up now... and try to learn from you... This *really* is just too much for me.
I do have one more thing to say though. I'm very fond of the smoke/magic pixy dust.
Oh! And another thing, since I need to learn as much as I can from you! What supplies did you use to create this image? And how did you create that black speckled effect that you have on the background too?

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
