Description

Various sketches of characters from 'The Man Who Laughs', Hugo's obscure yet truly brilliant novel.

I have a copy of the book in my possession now and that means that I just can't help but draw what I see in my mind as I read it! Actually, I'm delighted at how the characters are coming along, because shortly after producing the 'Love is Blind' piece, I went looking for images of Gwynplaine etc... and came across this sketch that Hugo himself drew: [link] I think I'm going in the right direction, don't you? Ha ha! I had doubts over my perception of that smile, but, well, Hugo's works are often so descriptive it's hard not to see everything as he would have it (although Ursus looks a little 'mad scientist' here!).

Btw, I must apologise for the break in the middle of the page. These sketches were drawn in my new Moleskine and I was determined to make the most of the 'lies flat' feature. It's funny, because I had always thought these books to be overrated, but they are nothing of the sort now that I'm using one. The pages are like butter... butter I tell you! I'm also growing jealous as I think my pencil is having an affair with the paper...

Ha ha ha! Ok, enough of my blabber. I'll leave you with this little thing that's been amusing me far too much now: [link] :D

This is fucking good! Sadly, I have not read the book yet, but it seems interesting...
